I've spent a lot of years shooting my friends' bands at the local hangouts. I'm very good at it, and upgrading my equipment has only made me better. But one thing I know as an educator (I teach high school English in the "real world!") is that the learning process keeps your brain engaged. So I always like to learn new things to expand my knowledge base in things that interest me, such as photography.
So a couple of months ago, I sucked it up and went to a meetup group hosted by a photography studio, and now I'm really loving portraiture. It's not THAT much different from what I did before - even with the band photography I was always after the single-musician shot that really captured a personality - but it is. And I think I'm pretty good at it, as well.
This is from a shoot this week at Boca Photo Studio with the lovely Ariel Amoure. Our theme was Holiday Pinup. I look forward to finding more opportunities to shoot in this vein.
